Find Your Growth Bottleneck Before Adding Another Channel

Use a simple customer journey review to decide whether to improve discovery, enquiries, sales follow-up, or delivery first.

When growth slows, a new advertising channel can feel like the most direct response. But additional traffic will not solve every problem. If enquiries wait days for a reply or proposals leave important questions unanswered, the constraint may sit well after the first visit.

Map the journey in observable steps

Write down how a person discovers the business, explores the offer, makes contact, becomes a customer, and returns. Define what counts as progress at each stage. A form submission is an enquiry; it is not automatically a qualified opportunity or a sale.

Review recent examples rather than relying entirely on dashboard totals. Choose a few won, lost, and unfinished opportunities. Read the questions people asked and identify where the process became unclear. This helps distinguish a volume problem from a relevance or follow-up problem.

Compare the handoffs

Look for missing information, long waits, repeated explanations, and work without an owner. A business receiving suitable enquiries but few booked conversations might need a clearer response process. A business booking many conversations with unsuitable buyers might need more precise website copy and qualification questions.

Avoid treating a small sample as a universal rule. Use it to form a hypothesis that you can test, then compare the result with your normal variation and sales cycle.

Choose one intervention

Write a short experiment: the observed issue, the proposed change, who owns it, and the signal you expect to see. For example, introduce a structured reply that confirms the customer's request and offers a clear next step. Track whether more suitable enquiries progress to a conversation, not just whether replies are sent faster.

Review the whole outcome

Check whether the improvement creates a new burden for delivery or support. Growth is useful when the business can fulfil the promise it makes. Keep the change when the evidence supports it, and record what you learned before selecting the next constraint.
